On April 19, 1983, Nick Gray crossed the Atlantic to Stowe VT in a bid to persuade the 78-year-old Maria von Trapp to travel to Salzburg Austria for a documentary film to be entitled "The Real Maria". She agreed on condition that her oldest stepson, Rupert, could accompany her. It was her last visit to the place that Maria and 'The Sound of Music' had made famous throughout the world.
During the eight day shoot, Maria revisited locations that were featured in her true story, was reunited with Father Wasner, the man she credited with the success of the Trapp Family Singers and explained the reality of her inspirational story.
This powerful documentary has been part of the Trapp Family Lodge History Tours for many years and has been shown at the lodge prior to being included to our Trapp Family history tours.
Bonus Feature: Kristina and Sam von Trapp, grandchildren of the Captain and Maria, reminisce about growing upon the 2,600 acres Trapp Family Lodge property with their father Johannes, youngest of Maria & the Captain's three children.
